Post Surgery Scars

After surgery, scars can sometimes become raised, thickened, uneven, or discoloured. This may happen due to excess collagen formation, tension on the wound, or individual healing tendencies. CO₂ laser treatment helps to remodel this scar tissue and improve the overall appearance of the skin.

The laser works by creating controlled, microscopic columns of thermal injury within the scar. These micro-channels trigger a healing response that leads to:

• Breakdown of dense, disorganised scar collagen

• Stimulation of new, healthier collagen production

• Smoother skin texture

• Softening and flattening of raised scars

• Improvement in colour and tone

CO₂ laser can be used on a range of post-surgical scars, including:

• Raised or thickened scars

• Hypertrophic scars

• Textured or uneven scars

• Long linear surgical scars

• Certain early keloid-prone scars (often combined with steroid injections)

Treatment is usually started once the wound has fully healed, which is typically around 6–12 weeks after surgery, depending on the area and type of procedure. Earlier intervention in selected cases may help guide better scar formation.
